Chinese New Year Celebration 2018

Category: IPS News & Event

Chinese New Year is the most important Chinese celebration for most Chinese people. We celebrated Chinese New (Year of the Dog) last 16 February 2018. Children dressed up in their traditional Chinese costume which symbolises wealth and fortune.

We also had different activities to celebrate the event such as singing and dancing Chinese songs, hanging of wishes, and eating different kinds of Chinese food like dim sum, candies and Chinese inspired red velvet cupcake. Children also received red envelopes from Miss Alka as a gift containing money to wish them a Happy New Year. Children enjoyed drawing and writing down their Chinese New Year wishes and hang them on our wishing tree.

K1 students performed a chant entitled “Dragon, Dragon”. K2 students sang and danced a Chinese New Year song. Y1 and Y2 presented a dance number about dragons and taught us necessary steps on how a dragon should move. They wore colourful masks made of recycled boxes and enjoyed acting out about dragons.

The children had so much fun learning about Chinese culture.
